Health insurance in Korea for foreigners
If you're working in Korea with an E-type visa and employed at a company, you likely have National Health Insurance (국민건강보험). This covers a significant portion of medical costs.
What to bring
Bring your health insurance card (건강보험증) and your foreigner registration card (외국인등록증) to every hospital visit.
No insurance?
If you don't have Korean health insurance, you'll pay 100% of the medical costs. This is common for tourists and short-term visitors. Always ask for a receipt (영수증) — you may be able to claim reimbursement from your home country.
Private insurance
Some foreigners have private insurance (실비보험). If so, keep all receipts and medical documents for your insurance claim.
Tip
Even without Korean health insurance, you can still see a doctor — you'll just pay the full cost. Keep all receipts for potential reimbursement from your home country's insurance.
